01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

Arriving with the lively clatter of the wok, the fried rice at Maruyoshi carries the gentle, time-tested seasoning long cherished around Itabashi. Flecked with minced narutomaki fish cake, braised pork, and egg, the grains strike a balance between moist tenderness and fragrant separation, kept pleasantly mild on salt. Many regulars order the ramen-half fried rice set, which pairs a portion of the rice with a bowl of shoyu ramen in a clean, understated broth—a classic combination where simple noodles and fried rice complement each other seamlessly.

The rest of the noodles and side dishes offer their own rewards. Gyoza with thick, chewy skins are pan-fried to a crisp brown, matching the house-made chili oil provided on the counter. Aromatic without excessive heat, this chili oil can also be spooned over generous bowls of mapo ramen to tailor the spice level, or drizzled onto fried rice for an extra layer of depth.

The shop currently opens only for a short midday service from Tuesday through Saturday, running from 11:30 to 14:00. Counter seats make it welcoming for solo diners, accompanied by mild-mannered service. Payment is cash only, and rice dishes can sell out before closing, making an earlier arrival the safest bet if you have your sights set on the signature fried rice.
